Oral Hygiene

Nov 14, 2019

Because proper dental care and strong, healthy teeth are so important, each patient who visits Smile Craft Dental is given oral hygiene instructions to help promote optimal health overall.

Oral Hygiene Instruction in Flower Mound

The correct brushing technique involves starting at a 45-degree angle positioned at the gum line. Gently move the brush in a circular motion. Use a soft bristle toothbrush with an ADA-approved fluoride toothpaste. To protect your healthy teeth and gums, do not use too much force. Brushing your teeth too hard, or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage the enamel and soft tissues. Brush twice a day for at least 30 seconds, preferably in the morning after you eat, and at night, before bed.

Proper flossing is also an important part of daily oral care. Use about half of an arm’s length of floss and wrap it around your fingers. Be sure to introduce a clean portion of floss beneath the gum line for each tooth. Floss your teeth at least once a day for good oral health.

Regular dentist visits play an important role in managing your oral health and physical condition. Routine oral health exams and teeth cleanings in Flower Mound should be scheduled every six months, or as prescribed by your Smile Craft Dental provider. During your appointment your teeth will be cleaned professionally, scaled and polished, digital x-rays may be taken, gum pockets will be measured, and your Flower Mound dentist will perform a dental exam and wellness screening.

Nutrition Consultations at Smile Craft Dental

The mouth is the gateway to the rest of the body. A healthy balanced diet has a huge impact on how well a child’s oral cavity and facial bone structure develops. Eating well also affects the overall health of kids and adults. When you and your family visit Smile Craft Dental, we provide nutritional consultations along with oral hygiene instructions to help you and your loved ones achieve healthy teeth and gums, and a strong body. For more information on the effects of diet and nutrition on dental health, or to schedule an oral hygiene consultation, please contact our Flower Mound dental office today.
